We’re opening a brand-new ceramics studio in High Wycombe this September and are building a team of enthusiastic local ceramicists to teach, support studio users and run specialist workshops.
Whether you’re looking for regular weekly teaching or would prefer to come in occasionally for a particular course or workshop, we’d love to hear from you.
Current Opportunities
🟢 Handbuilding Tutors
Lead six-week evening courses for beginner and mixed-ability students.
Sessions: 2 hours 15 minutes
Courses will cover a range of techniques including:
Pinch pots
Coiling
Slab building
Press moulding
A specialist handbuilding technique, such as nerikomi, sgraffito, Mishima or sprigs
Glazing
🟢 Wheel Throwing Tutors
We’re looking for tutors for:
Six-hour weekend beginner throwing courses
Six-week throwing courses, with 2½-hour sessions covering centring, cylinders, bowls, mugs, trimming, handles and developing confidence on the wheel
Future intermediate and specialist throwing courses
🟢 Weekly Studio Sessions
Paint-a-Pot Facilitators
Run relaxed family pottery-painting sessions for parents, children and other visitors.
Session length: 90 minutes
Semi-Tutored Studio Sessions
Support up to 15 members and studio users who are working independently, offering guidance, demonstrations, troubleshooting and advice as required.
These are not structured classes: participants will generally already know the basics and will be working on their own projects.
Session length: 3 hours
🟢 Autism-Friendly Teen Ceramics Tutor
We’re particularly interested in hearing from a ceramics tutor who is confident working with autistic teenagers and can create a calm, supportive and flexible learning environment.
This may suit someone with ceramics teaching experience alongside SEND, youth work, education or other relevant experience supporting autistic young people.
Please tell us about any relevant experience when you get in touch.
🟢 Guest Tutors
We’re also looking for occasional guest tutors specialising in areas including:
Sculpture
Decorative techniques
Slip casting & mould making
Glazing
If you specialise in another area of ceramics, we’d still love to hear from you.
Freelance Rates
Our regular teaching and facilitation rates are generally £30–£40 per contact hour, depending on the type of session. Prep would be outside the times below, but it is considered in the hourly rate.
Current standard rates include:
£90 for a 2¼-hour handbuilding session
£100 for a 2½-hour throwing session
£100 for a 3-hour semi-tutored studio session
£60 for a 90-minute Paint-a-Pot session
From £195 for a six-hour weekend throwing course
Rates for specialist workshops, guest teaching and other session formats are agreed individually according to the nature of the session and the tutor’s experience.

Studio Technician Trainee
Hours: One to three 8-hour days per week, depending on the applicant and the needs of the studio, to be agreed in advance.
Pay: From £11.50 per hour, subject to the applicable National Minimum Wage, with regular reviews as your skills and responsibilities develop.
About the Role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and friendly person to become part of our growing pottery studio team.
This isn’t just a cleaning or retail role. You’ll learn how a working ceramics studio operates from the inside, gradually developing the practical and technical skills needed to become a Studio Technician.
No previous pottery experience is required — we’re much more interested in curiosity, a willingness to learn and a positive attitude.
What You’ll Do
Your role will develop over time, but is likely to include:
Preparing clay and processing reclaim
Cleaning and maintaining the studio
Organising tools and workspaces
Helping prepare classes and Open Access sessions
Welcoming customers
Assisting with retail sales
Labelling and organising customer work
Learning how to load and unload kilns safely
Learning glaze preparation and studio systems
General studio maintenance and organisation
As your confidence grows, you’ll take on increasing responsibility and become a key part of the day-to-day running of the studio.
Training
Training takes place as part of your paid working day. You’ll work alongside experienced potters and technicians, learning through real studio work rather than classroom sessions.
For your first three months, you’ll also receive unlimited complimentary access to our Open Access sessions and pottery classes, subject to availability. This gives you the opportunity to develop your own pottery skills outside your paid hours and accelerate your learning.
After the initial three months, this will become one complimentary Open Access session or pottery class per week, again subject to availability.
